How can we help?
Answers for HumFut: Sounds for Calls, written from how the app actually works.
Get set up.
Three things, once. After that it’s call, Turn On, tap.
Step 1
An iPhone with iOS 26
HumFut runs on iPhone with iOS 26 or later. If an iPhone can’t add audio to calls, HumFut says so straight away: “This iPhone can’t do Call Sounds.”
Step 2
Allow what iOS asks for
The welcome screens walk you through the two things iOS has to allow: Injection in Settings, and Call audio, which HumFut asks for when you tap Allow call audio.
Say no and your Pads still play on your own phone. Nothing reaches a call until both are on. If one is off later, tap Open Settings in HumFut. It takes you straight to the Accessibility setting that lets apps add audio to calls.
Step 3
Call, then Turn On
Start a call the way you always do. When HumFut shows Supported Call detected., tap Turn On, then tap a Pad.
Call Sounds turn off by themselves when the call ends, so you turn them on for each call.
Get a sound in, then put it on a Pad.
Every sound lands in your Library first. Try each way on the iPhone
Share
From a soundboard site
- In Safari or Chrome, open the sound’s own page.
- Tap the sound’s Share button and choose HumFut.
- A card says “Got it. HumFut will finish adding this the next time you open the app.” It closes by itself.
- Open HumFut. The sound is in Library, marked New.
Capture
From a video or any app
- In Library, tap Capture, then the red record button.
- Your iPhone’s Screen Sharing card opens with HumFut Capture ticked. Tap Start Sharing.
- After the 3-second countdown, play the sound in any app.
- Tap the red indicator at the top of the screen, then Stop. Back in HumFut: “Captured. It’s in your Library marked New.”
Capture stops by itself at 60 seconds and keeps the first 30 seconds, with the silence trimmed.
Import
From your Files
- In Library, tap Add a sound.
- Pick an audio file in Files: Downloads, iCloud Drive or anywhere else.
- Up to 30 seconds becomes a Clip, marked New. Anything longer becomes a Track, for background music.
Put it on a Pad
In Library, under Clips, tap + next to the sound (Add to Reactions). It becomes a Pad on your Reactions board. Sounds not on a Pad yet say “Not on Reactions”.
Tracks play from Library and don’t go on a Pad.
Change a Pad
Hold a Pad to open Edit Reaction: Name, Colour, Icon, Volume, Play range (where it starts and ends), Move to position, Move to Collection and Remove.
Long-press a Collection header on Reactions to create a Collection. Rename, reorder or delete Collections in Settings → Manage Collections.
What HumFut is telling you.
The status at the top of HumFut always says whether the other person can hear you. These are its own words.
HumFut is checking the call. It takes a moment.
A call HumFut can use is connected. Tap Turn On.
Whatever you play now goes into the call, mixed with your voice. Stop silences everything.
The other person is hearing that sound right now.
There’s no call HumFut can use, or you’re sharing your screen. If you turned it on early, it starts when the call does.
Tap Open Settings and allow it.
Which calls work?
Calls your iPhone lets apps add audio to: Phone, FaceTime and calling apps like WhatsApp and Zoom. iOS decides which calls qualify. When it can, HumFut says Supported Call detected.
Good to know
- If your mic is muted in the call app, Call Sounds are muted too, so the other person hears nothing from HumFut.
- Sharing your screen pauses Call Sounds.
- On a Bluetooth headset, sound goes out in mono at lower quality. Everything still plays.
- The person on your call isn’t told: there’s no tone or announcement on their end. Keep it to sounds that are obviously not real.
Music and levels
Files longer than 30 seconds become Tracks. Play one from Library’s now-playing strip, with Play, Pause, Stop, Loop, and Mix for its level against your Reactions. It’s heard on the call when Call Sounds are on.
In the Levels sheet, They hear sets how loud everything is for the other person, and moving it changes what you hear too. What only you hear is your iPhone’s side volume buttons; HumFut never changes them.
Apple Watch
The HumFut Watch app needs watchOS 26 and your iPhone within reach. Sound always plays from your iPhone.
- One page per Collection: tap a Pad to play or stop it.
- Stop silences everything.
- Turn Call Sounds on or off.
- On the Levels page, turn the Digital Crown to set They hear, and play or pause your Track.
If your iPhone is out of reach, the Watch says “Can’t reach your iPhone. Nothing was sent.”
3 free calls, then a one-time unlock.
A call counts once sound actually goes into it. Turning on before a call starts, or off and on again in the same call, doesn’t use another. Settings → Unlock HumFut shows how many you’ve used.
After 3 calls, Turn On opens Unlock unlimited calls. It’s a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and it lets callers hear everything from HumFut on every call: Reactions, your sounds, music and typed Speak phrases. Trying Pads on your own speaker and editing your Library stay free.
Restore a purchase: Settings → Unlock HumFut → Restore Purchases.
Fix a problem.
The other person can’t hear my sounds.
Check that HumFut’s status says On. and the call is connected. Then check that your mic isn’t muted in the call app (that mutes Call Sounds too) and that you aren’t sharing your screen.
If it says “Your last call ended. Turn Call Sounds on again for this call.”, tap Turn On: Call Sounds turn off at the end of every call.
I can’t hear what I’m sending.
Your media volume may be down. HumFut says “Media volume is down — you can’t hear what you’re sending. Use the volume buttons on the side.”
HumFut doesn’t show up when I tap Share.
HumFut appears when what you share is an audio file. On a soundboard site, open the sound’s own page and use its Share button. If HumFut says “Open HumFut once to finish setting up, then share this again.”, do just that.
I shared a sound but it isn’t in my Library.
Shared sounds finish adding when you next open HumFut. Open the app and look in Library for the sound marked New.
My capture didn’t keep anything.
If HumFut says “Nothing was captured”, start again and play the sound while the red indicator is showing. Capture only keeps audio from other apps, and it stops by itself at 60 seconds.
Why won’t HumFut add a sound?
HumFut checks every sound on your iPhone and won’t add one that sounds like an emergency siren, an automated phone menu or dial tones, or a phone ringtone, because playing it into a call could be taken as real. Tap What’s this? in HumFut to read more, or choose another file.
“HumFut can’t play this file.” or “This file is damaged and won’t play.” means the file itself won’t open. Try a different audio file.
“HumFut couldn’t set up its audio.”
Turn Call Sounds off and on again. If it happens again, another audio app may be holding the audio: close it, or restart HumFut.
How do I delete a sound or a Pad?
To delete a sound, swipe left on it in Library and tap Delete. If it’s on a Pad, that Pad goes too. To take a sound off Reactions but keep it, hold its Pad and tap Remove. Settings → Storage shows the space your sounds use and can remove the starter sounds.
What’s the Speak tab?
Type what you want to say and tap Speak: HumFut speaks it into the call on your iPhone. It needs Call Sounds on. Your pinned phrases and recent ones are kept for next time.
Does HumFut record my calls?
No. HumFut never uses your microphone, never records a call and never listens to one. Capture is separate: it only keeps audio from another app that you start and stop yourself. Read the Privacy Policy
